Fanazavàna teny anglisy  [Sakalava] [manitra, fragrant.] a tree planted by some of the sakalava on the birth of their first child [1.2]
Fanazavàna teny frantsay (de hazo : bois et manitra : parfumé). Nom donné à des arbres à bois particulièrement odoriférant. Ce sont surtout :
[Sakalava, Tanala] Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume. (Lauraceae). Le Cannelier introduit et cultivé. On en plante traditionnellement un pied quand il naît un premier enfant mâle dans une famille.
[Bezanozano] Ravensara aromatica Sonn. (Lauraceae). Voir hazomanga [1.196]
 On appelle ainsi par antiphrase les arbres ayant la plus mauvaise réputation, symboles de la sorcellerie : notamment Leptolaena pauciflora Baker (Sarcolaenaceae). [1.196]
